Progressive lenses

Progressive lenses are the most modern method for correction of presbyopia. 

Progressive eyeglass lenses are designed in such a way that they have a gradual change in optical power from up to down. Through the top of the lens one may clearly see at a distance, the lower zone provides a clear near vision. The upper and lower zones are connected with the so-called progressive corridor, the optical power of which gradually changes (progresses), providing good vision at intermediate distances. 

Progressive lenses can replace three pairs of glasses. The boundaries between these zones are invisible, so apparently they look like ordinary monofocal lenses.

The peculiarity of progressive lenses is a narrow zone of good vision at intermediate distances and peripheral distortions. These features require some period of adaptation to progressive lenses. The adaptation process is individual and typically lasts from a few days to a month.

The design of modern progressive glasses has greatly improved, thus making faster the process of adaptation.
